Their current SA-6 garrison is at Gyor.
Here's a possible prepared site for a battery:
47.708086 17.688002
One could safely assume that the Gyor SA-6 garrison was also used during the cold war.
They also had SA-4s, no idea about the location of those.

Found some info, at some point between 1983 and 1989 there were 6 SA-6 garrisons and 1 SA-4 garrison. One of the SA-6s was in fact at Gyor, I'm working out the other locations.

Hi,

The first SA6 (soviet name: KUB) regiment was the 7th at Keszthely. In 1975 they received 5pcs KUB-M1 systems.
In 1977, the 14th regiment received 3pcs KUB-M2 system, at Gyor.
In 1979, the 18th regiment received 3pcs KUB-M2 system, at Nagykanizsa.

In 1981, the 7th regiment (Keszthely) received 6pcs SA4 (soviet name: KRUG) system, their 5pcs KUB-M1 was reallocated to other regiments.

The 15th regiment at Kalocsa, received 3pcs KUB-M1 from Keszthely, the 14th and the 18th received 1-1pcs.

At 1989, the picture looked like:
7th regiment, Keszthely, 6pcs KRUG
14th regiment, Gyor, 3pcs KUB-M2, 1pcs KUB-M1
15th regiment, Kalocsa, 3pcs KUB-M1
18th regiment, Nagykanizsa, 3pcs KUB-M2, 1pcs KUB-M1

At 1991, the Cold War ended, the YuGeVe (Southern Group of Soviet Forces) left Hungary.
The 18th regiment was disbanded.

At 1991, the picture looked like:
7th regiment, Keszthely, 6pcs KRUG
14th regiment, Gyor, 5pcs KUB-M2, 1pcs KUB-M1
15th regiment, Kalocsa, 5pcs KUB-M1

At 1997, all the three regiments were disbanded, and two new organized.
12th regiment, Gyor, 5pcs KUB-M2, and 4pcs KRUG
5th regiment, Nagyoroszi, with French Mistral missiles.

At 2004, the 5th regiment was also disbanded, and the Mistrals were allocated to the 12th.

Currently the 12th is the only SAM regiment in Hungary.

If you have any question about the Hungarian SAM units, please ask.

Best Regards,
Hpasp

I think, that the mistake of the analysis is the absence of the MN (Hungarian Peoples Army), and YuGeVE (Southern Group of Soviet Forces) air defense regiments.

Here is a picture containing their destruction zones:

Hi,

That info is surely misleading.

The MN (Hungarian Peoples Army) had 3 SA6 garrison:
14th regiment, Gyor
15th regiment, Kalocsa
18th regiment, Nagykanizsa

The YuGeVe (Southern Group of Soviet Forces) had 4 SA-6 garrison:
159th regiment, Komárom
1092th regiment, Lepsény
1098th regiment, Nagykorös
1215th regiment, Szentkirályszabadja

YuGeVe also had SA-4, and SA-11 units in Hungary, beside the SA-3's at the airports.

Br,
Hpasp

OK, so the Krugs, the Buks, and some of the Kubs were in fact Soviet. That helps a lot. I'll look through the info you provided and see about updating the article. If I need anything else clarified you'll be the first to know!

SOC, one Krug battery was Hungarian, see Hpasp's first post.
What is the difference (both visual and in performance) between Kub-M1 and Kub-M2?

If You would like to expand Your Cold War Case Study, I can describe the development of the Radiotechnical troops from 1949 till today.
Also avaiable is the development of the fighter regiments from 1957.
