Started uploading these onto a Blog so that they are better indexed/all in one place and at least some of the images are saved on a reasonably future-proof server (don't trust tinypic/imageshack).

Still uploading all the previous ones to there, and updating/consolidating as I go. Drew this today especially for it:

A good initiative, as photos in the older threads started to disappear, like in the North Korean Naval power 2007

While we're at it, in this work, in the Conventional naval units section you keep mentioning crewed 25 mm AAA. What is your source on that? I find it very unlikely, as 25 mm caliber is non existant in Soviet/Russian inventory and in the Chinese industry it only appeared very recently on some APC. Considering how conservative are the Norks, there is about 0 chance they adopted the 25 mm. Those guns are likely 23 or 30mm.

And a small typo, at the Soho class missile frigate the helicopter type is designated "1 x Mil Mi-17 Haze" - in fact it is Mi-14.

Includes new site type, probably the 'new' 100mm KS-19 system.

There are several SAM sites further east about 20km from Natanz. Possibly some are SA-15????

One looks like SA-6 and another like I-Hawk though.

Those are in the new SAM Site Overview, some of them are in fact SA-15s. The Google buttholes updated that imagery the day after I updated the Iranian SAM Network article!

My inability to manage my GE placemarks is getting embarrassing, I thought I had your latest file but evidently not. At least I guessed the SA-6 and Hawk sites correctly. The SA-15, how confident are you?

What do you make of 33.713435°, 51.863483°?

You guessed SA-15 for the northern site too, 33.754302°, 51.766327° - me too Very Happy

Could be Panstyr though?

Also, 33.752117°, 51.809666° is an empty SA-6?

The first one, who knows. There's a lot of activity but it doesn't yet match any other site configuration. The second one, could be an empty SA-6, but could also be an empty HAWK. Too ambiguous to conclusively differentiate beteen the two, so I don't yet have it labeled.

I am fully confident that those are SA-15 TELARs.

Since you have the latest file now, what do you think of the added detail to the placemarks?

very good, must take a lot of upkeep tho. What might be good is if you added a pic of the system to each one to help newbs visualize what you are seeing, like a file pic of SA-6 etc.

How do you know about imagery updates?

Refresh that every once in a while and the newly uploaded imagery will be displayed outlined in red.

I'm not going to bother adding images, specs, or anything like that, because it'd take an even more insane amount of time. As it is right now I have every nation finished except for Egypt, Iraq, and China, and I skipped over Russian inactive SA-2 sites and US EW sites. Updating this stuff is easy since I check to see what imagery is updated. What I might do is come up with a couple of PDF pages for a "user guide" giving the specs and a representative image of each site, kinda like a primer on SAM sites. There are always the SAM Site layout bits on the blog as well, and I may toss links to those into one of the folders now that I think about it. The top-level SAM Site Overview folder just has a line showing the total number of placemarks, I can mess with that space.

I keep meaning to redo my macro thing to be user friendly, that'd solve a lot of the upkeep prob

It's a web linked file, so you do have to remember to refresh it I think.

Google tends to update their imagery twice a month these days, at the beginning and around the 15th.

I've been sitting on this for a while until I had confirmation he'd published, but Larry Bond used the Bluffer's Guides as a source.
