Hi SOC,
As usual its a GR8 article.
I was wondering if you could elucidate on two similar bldgs at 20 44 32.30N 45 32 55.58E and 20 41 20.03N 45 36 55.90E. At first the one in South looks like a mosque but then why should it be constructed in unaproachable / out of the way route? Two small constructions nearby are also interesting. Orientations of both are dissimilar so presumably not mosques.

Those facilities are interesting. I didn't mention them because I'm not quite sure what to make of them. An easy guess is that they perform some sort of perimeter security function, with one at the northwestern end and one at the southeastern end close to the perimeter. This allows them to have overwatch of the flat terrain in those directions. Then again, the facility is remarkbly secure already, thanks to the natural terrain. Therefore, an alternative view is that they could be launch control facilities associated with each garrison, intended to transmit commands to launchers dispersed into the field. _________________ "Peace through kinetic solutions" |

Yeah, I wouldn't be shocked if this one magically found its way into Jane's. It really is interesting that Saudi's Chinese-built missile force gets very little attention. _________________ "Peace through kinetic solutions" |

Have to agree.
They have a sizeable amount of Chinese Instructors/Techs based in SA. |
