Interesting read mate.
By far the worst country for censorship is US where increasingly government buildings... even non-military ones, are often censored. Presumably this is some bureaucratic idiot who has never bought an ordinance survey map.
The thing I don't get is why censor most of these places??? Would is prevent a terrorist attack? - no way. Does Google Earth help terrorists? - only about the same as a map and even censored images tend to show you enough detail for any conceivable terrorist purpose.
I think censorship is stupid and shows how un-free the free world is becoming. |

That's amusing. I wonder if that place is nuke-affiliated... _________________ "Peace through kinetic solutions" |

| Presumably that's a US site. Really it beats me what that censorship is supposed to prevent. |

Interesting find.
The building on the North West comes and goes on 23 Dec 2005.
Hence the dates of imageries are also incorrect.
The building on the South East has been marked on wikimapia as Huaxing Middle School.
Can Google stop Chinese or any other country satellites or aircrafts from taking images?
Censorship by Google is really foolish. |

| There's another sort of censorship in Taiwan, where newer images have 'holes' cut ion them around military areas. Older images still show through. eg. 24.214759°, 120.598578° and the airbase SE, plus ammo dump behind etc. |

Unfortunately for them their older imagery was still clear enough for me to figure out that they were trying to "censor" a HAWK missile battery. This is beginning to border on the ridiculous and may deserve a special post to point out and capture images of all of these fun places before they erase them all and ban Google in Taiwan. _________________ "Peace through kinetic solutions" |

| gets better, why on earth censor 24.140670°, 120.574430° - my bet is the person who does the censoring doesn't know what they are looking at half the time. US is worse too. |

Those are secret superwide missile silos built with assistance from NIKE, not POL tanks. Or at least that's the angle I'm going to take when I destroy their censorship practices... _________________ "Peace through kinetic solutions" |

| There is a very clear picture on Panoramio of these secret superwide missile silos built with assistance from NIKE (I too want to take that angle). The caption says it is some kind of water purification plant. The comment says they are China Oil POL tanks. The image is not censored on Panoramio. Hilarious indeed. |

Maybe they outsourced the censoring to India and gave them a script that reads:
"censor any military infrastructure or equipment in this list:
Air bases
Embassies and related US Gov property
Tanks" |

Tanks! Dude, I laughed at that one over here. Who ever would have thought that Google Earth would be a source of any sort of humorous content NOT involving nude beaches? _________________ "Peace through kinetic solutions" |

Alright, lets use this thread as an index. If you find someplace that has been censored, throw the coordinates in here. When I get enough hilarious examples I'll list every one of them on the site. _________________ "Peace through kinetic solutions" |

I didn't get the part with NIKE - what do you guys mean?
Tours- St Symphorien AB in France
47.430517 0.719943
The military side is pixelated, but going trough historical imagery one can find an uncensored snapshot.
For God's sake, it's just a training facility with Alpha Jets
On the other hand, Saint-Dizier AB, where nuclear delivery Mirage 2000 N and more recently Rafales are based, is available in reasonable resolution.
Leeuwarden, Netherlands
53.223964 5.752564
Even though the base is pixelated, there are Panoramio pictures placed inside...
And of course sites such as Scramble.nl have extensive information on the base layout and advantageous spotting places:
http://www.scramble.nl/airports/index.html
Plus there is http://maps.live.com/ where the base can be seen in good resolution overhead imagery. |

lol, the Nike thing is re Taiwan. They used to use Nike SAMs so we're guessing that Nike sites became TK sites.
On to obserd censoring. White Plains local airport in USA, not military at all.
41.066679°,-73.705592° and another at 40.791073°, -73.099998°
Nearby 40.911095°, -73.778142° - local government offices I suspect. Clearly the censoring seems to be dependant on the imagery supplier.

On the North side you can see 4/5 tunnel entrances.
Slightly to the North (25 05 28.93N 121 32 17.37E) can see two AAA pieces on raised platforms.
There is a covered route(?) to a hard standing (has a shuttle marked on it) at 25 05 29.04N 121 32 17.37E from 25 05 16.96N 121 32 12.91E.
Whats going on there? |

| Awesome!!!! That's got top be the clearest imagery of a 35mm Skyguard gin anywhere on google earth. Just wow!
This find confirms my suspicions re the Taiwanese Skyguard set-up. Usually you cannot tell if they have 35mm AAA or Sparrow SAMs, but at least one is a positive ID for Sparrow and this one is seen with 35mm. They only have two gun/missile platforms so they'd have either two guns, or two missile launchers, or one of each. There's another nearby at 25.072710°, 121.583939° - in the latest imagery this site appears to have a 35mm & Sparrow mix.
Re the "shuttle", that's a sports pitch of some sort. I'm not sporty but at a guess basketball. The other building you pointed to, really not sure. Could be coincidental. There is a comms mast about 1km east along the ridge line though. |
